| The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is a multilateral finance institution, established in 1966 to foster economic and social development in the Asia-Pacific Region. The bank offers opportunities to talented individuals from its developing member countries to pursue postgraduate studies through a Scholarship Program which commenced in 1988 with funding from the Government of Japan.
Scholarships, for a period of one to three years, are awarded at sixteen well-known institutions in the region, including SIIT, Thammasat University. Each scholarship covers full tuition fees, an allowance for books and instructional materials, a monthly subsistence, medical insurance, and travel expenses. For scholars engaged in research, a special grant may be made to assist in field work and thesis preparation.
If you apply for admission to a master's degree program and wish to be considered for an ADB scholarship, you will need to complete the ADB information sheets (which can be downloaded from the ADB web site (http://www.adb.org) for the scholarship and submit the required documents including: a) two recommendation letters (at least one from your academic advisor), and b) an official score of an English proficiency test (TOEFL (official or institutional), IELTS, or TU-GET), with your admission application. SIIT will evaluate the applications and contact the candidates for further information if necessary. SIIT will then recommend eligible candidates to the Bank. The Bank will make a selection and inform each institution accordingly. (Applications for scholarships should be submitted before November for next academic year.)
ADB Scholarships cover Air Fare, Tuition and Educational Support Fees as well as Monthly Stipend, which includes housing allowance, subsistence allowance, instructional material allowance, and administrative expenses, approximately US$ 455 (15,000 Baht).
