Performance Based Analysis and Design of Concrete Mix Proportions
Simulation models for predicting materials, mix proportion, time and
environment dependent properties of concrete are studied. At present, the
studied properties are workability, workability loss, bleeding, plastic
shrinkage, strength, thermal cracking, autogenous and drying shrinkages,
cracking resistance, carbonation, chloride induced corrosion, and sulfate
resistance. Computer software is being developed for analysis and design
purposes to obtain mix proportions of concrete with the required initial and
long-term performances. Results of the research works are utilized in the
establishment of “Design Considering Durability and Service Life” for concrete
structures in Thailand.
Proper Use of Binders and Fillers as Cement Replacing Materials in
Concrete
Studies on the properties of concrete with various kinds of powder materials
are conducted. The materials are: fly ash and CaCO3 powder, etc.
Optimizing the use of these materials and introduction of multibinder systems to
the concrete industry are the aims of this project. Effect of fly ash with high
free lime and SO3 content on properties of concrete is also studied
for modifying the current fly ash specification.
Use of Bottom Ash in Concrete
The use of bottom ash as partial replacement of fine aggregate is studied.
Some merits were observed when the replacement proportions and other control
properties were appropriate. The targets of this study are to introduce the use
of bottom ash to the concrete industry as well as to establish a standard for
utilizing bottom ash as a partial replacing material for fine aggregate.
Maintenance of Concrete Structures
Research works and their applications on inspection, repair, maintenance,
life cycle evaluation, and maintenance management of concrete structures are
carried out. The works are parts of the program to develop appropriate
maintenance codes and standards for concrete structures in Thailand. |
