Advanced Geospatial Technologies Research Unit is defined as a research organization made up of the specialist group of Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology (SIIT) faculty members who collaborate on an area of geospatial research, and work together to provide added value to each other. This research unit focuses on developing in geospatial knowledge for doing research especially geospatial data and technologies including frontier research on smart city, precision agriculture and smart environment.
I. Motivation

With Thailand’s urbanization and the development of frontier research under Thailand 4.0, space-time analysis is a rapidly growing research frontier and become a core components of the digital economy. Advances in integrated GPS/GIS technologies; the availability of large datasets (over time and space – spatial Big Data); and increased capacity to manage (cloud computing); integrate, model, and visualize complex data in (near) real time offer the GIS communities extraordinary opportunities to begin to integrate sophisticated space-time analysis and models in the study of complex environmental and social systems. Therefore, geospatial technologies are becoming parts of humans’ daily life. The technology is beginning to use data derived from GIS and/or perform analysis based on spatial data processing, analysis and visualization. Currently, the innovation and technology are highly developed for supporting in the digital age including advance geospatial technology such as GNSS, indoor navigation, Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) and precision farming.
