Research Interests
My current research is in the fields of Industrial Engineering and applied Operations research. One of my current research projects investigates the use of workforce scheduling approaches in improving job satisfaction and work conditions of nurses and health care staff. The practicality and effectiveness of the approaches are being investigated using a case study of operating room scheduling. There are also ongoing projects that use Operations research techniques for supply chain planning. My primary focus is to consider the adverse impacts of supply chain activities and infrastructures on local communities and the environment. These projects are based on urban freight transport and municipal solid waste management cases. Sustainability-related concepts such as Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and resilience are integrated into these cases. My general studying goal is to achieve the supply chain operational objectives while at the same time being able to mitigate the environmental consequences and resolve other sustainability issues.
